Roffiat Cross
Presentation
On the road to Le Pouliguen, the cross is located at the entrance of the village. She is perched on a rock, on a granite base. The painted wooden cross stands on a broad cornice.
It is decorated with 13 little yellow hearts. In the center, a white heart, larger in size, is surrounded by a crown of thorns and surmounted by a rooster, probably to remind the denial to St. Peter. The ends of the arms end curiously, like tops. Two instruments of passion are present: the sponge and the spear. All ornaments are in wood.
The cross was renovated in 1972 on the initiative of Henriette Saffré and the determination of Vitaline Lechesne. All believing inhabitants or not, took heart to participate. Since then, it has been restored by the municipality.
Formerly, the fiancés came to dance in the square and pray to the Virgin who was in the niche, under the title of Our Lady of Happiness. After several thefts, today is a simple silhouette of the Virgin who is in the niche.
