Presentation
For the 20th edition of Art au Gré des Chapelles, 19 contemporary artists of national and international renown will be exhibiting their works in 14 chapels around the peninsula. This artistic and cultural event, based on the encounter between contemporary art and heritage, invites you to discover the peninsula from chapel to chapel, some of which are only revealed on rare occasions. This year, the Saint-Marc de Kervalet chapel in Batz-sur-Mer will host the works of watercolour artist Gilles COUTAL.
A self-taught painter, Gilles Coutal is a naturalist, enamoured of these semi-rural landscapes, which he criss-crosses with his dog and his palette, between Tarn and Aveyron. A painter-poet of water, watercolour is for him a spontaneous, magical way of portraying all the atmospheric tensions that characterise these high plateaux subject to snow and wind. "The marriage of water and pigment is so bewitching and creative that it generates an enduring fascination. Watercolour! Paper, pigment, water! Water is synonymous with transparency. This element, which brings excitement, exaltation and sometimes fear to the watercolourist, creates a magic that is unparalleled in its spontaneity. Water, sometimes tamed, sometimes tame, but rarely domesticated. One word: respect.
A watercolourist who has been renowned throughout the south of France for many years, Gilles Coutal's talent has been recognised on a national level, leading to his admission to the French Watercolour Society, a benchmark among watercolourists that opens up new horizons for him, and his participation in a number of major exhibitions. You can discover her work on display in September, in the enchanting setting of the Saint-Marc de Kervalet chapel.
