Conference "Theater on the front during the 1914-1918 war" by ACMTR
6 p.m. at the Espace Petit Bois
Thursday 24 September
1915: The war, which was planned as short, has been going on for a year. The soldiers still have not had any leave. To fight against the cockroach that settles, we call on volunteers in the regiments to create entertainment. Poilus from the 81st RIT of Nantes in position near Arras write a play and perform it in front of their comrades. Success is at the rendez-vous and the play is performed about fifty times on the front. They wrote two more and played them with the same success until 1918. The texts declaimed or sung on opera tunes, operetta or popular songs, review the daily life of the poilu, his doubts, his sorrows...
The author of the texts was Georges Péaud, who was appointed head of the commune of Batz-sur-Mer from July 1941 to December 1944. We owe him "The song of the guys from Batz". This is a real lesson in history that gives us Jean Bourgeon, historian from Nantes, accustomed to Batz-sur-Mer for more than 40 years.
Free entry.
