Presentation

Since 2016, the Little Cities of Character in the Loire-Atlantique region, Batz-sur-mer, Piriac-sur-mer and Le Croisic, have been offering a free festive event based on jazz to highlight their heritage over a weekend. For this 6th edition, Batz-sur-mer is putting heritage back at the heart of the event by offering original flash guided tours, echoing the various musical performances that will punctuate the day. This year, it is the jazz of "New Orleans" that will come to life in the streets of Batz-sur-mer, a music blended from Africa, the United States and French influences, which gives a rhythmic and improvised jazz reflecting the culture and history of New Orleans. This constantly evolving musical trend will take us through the ages, from its origins to modern reinterpretations with a hip-hop flavour.

5PM | MULBERRY TREE CHAPEL
"Il était une fois la Nouvelle-Orléans" by the Harlem Jazz Cats

Come and discover the origins of this jazz movement from the beginning of the 20th century, through testimonies and anecdotes told by BRUNO MILLISCHER, storyteller of the Cie "Débits d'Fagots". This story set to music is popular, joyful and festive with emblematic pieces: from its origins in the songs of slaves from Africa, then the creation of orchestral groups in Louisiana, to the importation of this new musical trend into France in 1917 by American soldiers, through the ports of Brest, Saint-Nazaire...

6.30 PM | MULBERRY TREE CHAPEL AND THE TOWN OF BATZ
OZZ BAND and flash guided tours

Inspired by the sound of the current New Orleans brass bands (Hot 8, Young Blood Brass Band...) our eight explorers offer us original compositions, at the crossroads of Afro-American music (funk, jazz, hip hop, groove, New Orleans...) with choreography from another world and costumes straight out of a Stanley Kubrik film. Their quest is to make everything groove. No matter where they land, their goal is to make people dance, sing, and be surprised, and they succeed at any cost! Let yourself be taken on board in their offbeat wanderings which will start from the Chapelle du Mûrier, accompanied by a guide-lecturer who will offer two "flash" guided tours along the route from the Bourg de Batz to the Port Saint-Michel.
Duration of the tour: 1h30.

8 PM | PETIT BOIS
Introduction to Lindy Hop dance by the Kick'N Swing association

The Lindy Hop is a street dance that developed in Harlem (New York) towards the end of the 1920s, in parallel with jazz and more particularly swing.
This very joyful and shuffling dance is the ancestor of rock. Come and learn the basic steps to warm up before the concert in the Petit Bois!

8.30 PM | PETIT BOIS
Concert French Quarter

FRENCH QUARTER is the mythical French Quarter of New Orleans, bordering the Mississippi. Cradle of jazz, its streets remember the overexcited atmosphere where you could hear Amstrong, Sidney Bechet, Fats Waller, King Oliver... Coming from various backgrounds (jazz, funk, rock, world music...), it is after several trips to the source: Louisiana, that these 6 musicians decided to get together around their passion for "New Orleans" music. They are coming exclusively to Batz-sur-mer and will take you on a journey through time and the American continent with an infectious enthusiasm that will make you spend a moment of pure pleasure!
